Follow-up practice

After a quiz, each student can get a short practice set that targets the standards they missed. If a student got everything right, they get a stretch set that goes a bit deeper instead.

  1. Open the quiz results. See Quiz results.
  2. Select Create follow-up work.
  3. Wait while Lubna works through three steps: grading short answers, finding each student’s gaps and writing practice for each student. A class of 25 usually takes a minute or two.

When it finishes, a line tells you how many sets are ready. For example: “22 ready, 1 failed, 2 skipped (no answers).”

  • Skipped means the student answered no questions, so there was nothing to base a set on.
  • Failed means the AI could not write a good set for that student. Select Recreate follow-up work to try again.

Selecting Recreate follow-up work replaces existing sets with new ones. Students lose any answers on the old set, so recreate only when you need to.

Each set has 3 to 5 questions. Most are multiple choice, with at most one short answer. They are new questions that practice the same skills, not copies of the quiz. Each one has a hint students can open, and an explanation after they check. The set starts with a short, encouraging note written to the student.

Students with support needs on their record get a set shaped to that need, for example simpler wording for English learners.

The AI works from codes only. It sees:

  • the standards the student missed and the text of the questions they missed,
  • their overall score as a percent, and
  • any support codes on their record, such as ELL.

It never sees names, emails, notes about a student or what they typed. The AI works the same in anonymous mode and in verified school mode, because nothing identifies the student. See How Lubna protects students.

Short answers from the quiz are graded by AI against the acceptable answers you wrote, as the first step of Create follow-up work. The student’s answer is treated as text to mark and is never kept in logs. If a short answer cannot be graded, it stays ungraded and the next run tries again. You will see “ungraded” next to it.

Short answers inside a practice set are not marked automatically. Students see the model explanation after they answer.

When a student finishes the quiz or homework, they see See your practice work. If their set is not ready, they see a friendly note that their teacher is preparing it. Students who are signed in or remembered on a device also find it in the To do list on their home page. See Practice for students.

On the results page, select a student’s row in the Students table. A card called Follow-up for that student appears. It shows:

  • a summary, such as “3 of 5 answered, 2 of 3 correct”, and the encouraging note,
  • each question, with the student’s answer and a tick or cross,
  • the correct choices, the hint and the explanation, and
  • “Not answered yet” for questions they have not reached.

The Follow-up column in the table gives a quick view for the whole class, such as “4/5 done”, “pending” or “failed”.

  • Follow-up work is for your information. It is not graded and does not change the quiz score.
  • You can create follow-up work again any time. Run it once short answers are in.
  • Names on the page come from your device. The server only has codes.
