Student names stay on your device
Lubna never receives your students’ names. When you add a roster, your browser swaps each name for a random code like S-4F2A. Lubna and its AI only see the codes. The list that matches codes to names is called the name list (or roster key), and it lives only in your browser.
This is on purpose. It means a Lubna server cannot leak a name it never had.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”- You paste or upload a class list. See Create a class.
- Your browser makes a code for each student and sends Lubna the codes, plus grade level and any supports you chose.
- Your browser keeps the code-to-name list, encrypted, on that device.
- When you open a class, your browser puts the names back on screen. Nobody else sees them.
Before any text you type, or any student answer, goes to the AI, your browser also replaces known names with codes.
See names in your class
Section titled “See names in your class”Open a class and go to the Students tab. If the name list is on this device, you see names beside each code and a note that names are shown from this device only.
If you see only codes and a note that student names are not on this device, the name list is missing here. That happens when you made the class on another computer or cleared your browser data. Follow the steps below to bring it over.
Use another device
Section titled “Use another device”Names do not sync on their own, so you move them yourself with a file and a passphrase.
On the device that has the names
Section titled “On the device that has the names”- Open the class and go to Students.
- Select Export name list.
- Type a Passphrase of at least 8 characters.
- Select Download file. You get a file called
lubna-name-list.json.
On the new device
Section titled “On the new device”- Open the same class and go to Students.
- Select Import name list.
- Choose the file, or paste its text.
- Enter the same passphrase and select Import.
Now the names show on that device too.
If browser data is cleared
Section titled “If browser data is cleared”Clearing site data, using a different browser or switching to a new computer removes the name list from that browser. Your class, codes and results are safe on Lubna, but the names are gone from that device.
- If you exported a file earlier, import it again.
- If you did not, you will see only codes. You can still run activities, and students join with their codes. You can also print code cards and match codes to students by hand. See Manage students.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- After you rename a student or replace a code, export the name list again for your other devices.
- Deleting a class also deletes its name list from the device you delete it on.
