AI and your data

Lubna uses AI to help with grading, lesson planning, follow-up practice, the teaching assistant and more. This page explains what the AI is allowed to see.

  • Student codes or short labels, never names
  • Grade band and subject
  • Support codes, like “ELL”
  • Scores and whether answers were correct
  • Standards
  • Content you wrote and sources you provided
  • Student names, emails or phone numbers
  • Narrative IEP text
  • Tokens or join codes
  • Free-text student answers in the assistant’s tool results
  1. Names are replaced in your browser. Before text you type or students write goes to the AI, your browser swaps known names for codes.
  2. A server check. Lubna refuses a request that contains an email address, a phone number or a known name. It also refuses uploaded files whose text has student contact details or a student name heading.
  3. Placeholders in briefs. Conference briefs use a placeholder for the student. Your browser fills in the name when you print.
  4. One purpose per request. Each AI task is limited to its job. Lubna also meters usage and applies spending limits.
  5. No student data in logs. Lubna records which task ran, how big it was, and how long it took, not what was said.
  • Do not type a student’s name, email or private details into the assistant or into a lesson description.
  • Leave out names from files you upload.
  • Use codes or “a student” when you ask for advice.

Lubna uses providers for AI, hosting, database and sign-in. These include Anthropic, Google, Neon, Cloudflare, Clever and ClassLink. Provider settings such as zero data retention are being confirmed before school traffic, so please ask the Lubna team about your school’s needs.
