Student settings
These settings shape what students see when they use Lubna with your class. You find them on the class Students tab.
Nicknames
Section titled “Nicknames”By default, kids can choose a fun nickname for live quizzes. Nicknames come from a safe word list, so nobody types a real name on screen.
- To turn nicknames off, clear the box Kids can choose nicknames. Live quizzes then show student codes instead.
- To reset one student’s nickname, find them in the table and select Reset nickname. They get a new one.
You can see each nickname next to the student’s name, which only you can see.
Custom avatars
Section titled “Custom avatars”The switch Kids can customise avatars is on by default. Turn it off, and students keep the default avatar made from their code everywhere this class shows them.
Rewards and gems
Section titled “Rewards and gems”Students earn gems for taking part in activities. They spend gems on cosmetic items in the shop. Gems do not change any quiz score.
In the Rewards panel:
- Select Turn off to stop gems for this class, or Turn on to start again. The panel says “On for this class” or “Off for this class”.
- When rewards are on, you can Give bonus gems. Tick the students, set an Amount from 1 to 50, and choose a Reason: “Great discussion!”, “Thoughtful effort!” or “Helped a classmate!”. If the names are on this device you can pick Write my own.
- Select Give gems to N selected.
Your own reason text is checked in your browser for student names before it is saved.
Remembered devices
Section titled “Remembered devices”When students sign in on a device they can choose to be remembered. Use Reset device sign-ins if a shared Chromebook cart got mixed up. See Manage students.
What students see
Section titled “What students see”When a student opens their home page, they see:
- A greeting, their avatar and nickname, with a way to change them if you allow it.
- Join a live quiz and an exit ticket code button.
- A to-do list of weekly reviews and other work, and a Done recently list.
- Their gem count, This week’s quests and a Visit the shop button, if rewards are on.
Students reach activities with their code. See the student guide.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Settings apply to one class at a time.
- Nicknames, avatars and gems are linked to codes, never names.
- Students can read how this works on Nickname and avatar and Gems and shop.
